Cross Country Teams Ready For ACC Championships

The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams are ready to run Saturday, Oct. 27 at the ACC Championships in Clemson, SC. Junior Nathan Sisco leads the men's team and the women's squad is led by a pair of freshmen, Anne Bersagel and Danielle Coon.

The men's championship will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will cover 8,000 Meters. The Demon Deacons, ranked 21st in the country and third in the region, are coming off a 10th place finish out of 36 teams at the Furman Invitational/Pre-NCAA meet Oct. 13 in Greenville, SC. Sisco, who hails from Lebanon, NJ, led the Deacs, finishing sixth overall - ahead of all conference runners earning ACC Performer of the Week honors for the second time this season. Wake Forest took fourth place last year at the ACC Championships and was led by then-junior Ted DeVos, who earned all-conference honors.

Head coach Gary Sievers will run Sisco and DeVos along with Chris Estwanik, Garick Hill, Dave Barrett, Eduardo Acosta, Philip Wiles and Sean Nagorny this Saturday.

The women's championship will begin 11:00 a.m. and will cover 6,000 Meters. The Demon Deacons are coming off an 18th place finish out of 37 teams at the Furman Invitational/Pre-NCAA meet Oct. 13 in Greenville, SC. Bersagel, who hails from Greeley, CO, and Coon, who hails from Ganesvoort, NY, led the Deacs, finishing 50th and 81st respectively. They have taken turns finishing 1-2 in the last three races this season. Last year, Wake Forest took third place at the ACC Championships.

Head coach Annie Schweitzer Bennett will run Bersagel and Coon along with Kara Mullin, Adralyn Wendel, Courtney Lancashire, Denise Hefferin, Risa Rutland and Catherine Fortin-Major this Saturday.

The awards ceremony will begin upon completion of the women's race. Both championship teams will be honored, as well as All-ACC finishers (top ten runners in each race) and the Rookie of the Year (the top true freshman in each race).
