Winston-Salem, N.C. - Following today's 10-0 victory over Pacific, the Wake Forest field hockey team honored former standout forward Jenny Everett (WFU '01) by retiring her number. Everett was presented with a framed jersey with her number "1" emblazoned on the front. Another jersey was presented to the Athletic Department. Everett becomes the first field hockey player and first female athlete in Wake Forest history to have a number retired and hers is the first number to be retired since Tim Duncan's number 21 was retired in 1998.
Everett is Wake Forest's all time leader in goals with 76 and in points with 186. Her 34 career assists are good for second all time. She also holds the single season records in goals (20), assists (20) and points (62). Her accolades extend beyond the realm of Wake Forest, as she also garnered several regional and national honors during her career. In her four years as a starter for Wake Forest, Everett was twice named to the All-ACC team. She was a two-time NFHCA Astroturf All-American and was three times named a Verizon/GTE Academic All-American. She was a four-time NFHCA Regional All-American, a first team selection in each of her final three seasons. She was a two-time NFHCA National All-American and in 1997 and 1998 she was a member of the U.S. National Under-19 team.
