Brendon And Loewenthal Qualify At All-American Championships

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA - Wake Forest men's tennis players Trent Brendon and David Loewenthal picked up a pair of doubles wins Sunday at the ITA All-American Championships Prequalifying Tournament at the Lincoln Tennis Center to advance to the qualifying draw. Loewenthal also earned a victory in the fourth round of singles play to advance to the qualifying round.
Stopping a pair from Minnesota 8-6 in the third round, Brendon and Loewenthal then topped a duo from Furman 8-3 to qualify for the next draw of the ITA All-American Championships - the qualifying draw, Oct. 9-10.
In singles action, Loewenthal outlasted Northwestern's Jamie Sahara 7-6 (5), 6-0 in the fourth round. He will meet Oggie Kolev from Arkansas on Monday morning in the last prequalifying round. The winner will advance to the qualifying draw, Oct. 9-10.
Three other Demon Deacons lost in the fourth round of singles play Sunday. Brendon lost 6-4, 6-4 to Chad Harris of Vanderbilt. David Bere fell 6-4, 6-1 to Calle Hansen from Pepperdine and Mike Murray dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Minnesota's Alex Zharinov.
