Women's Golf Finishes Fourth In Tar Heel Invite

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Wake Forest women's golf finished fourth in the Tar Heel Invitational Sunday. The team shot 921, 27 strokes behind the leader Duke, at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill.
Wake finished behind ACC rivals Duke (1st) and North Carolina (2nd).
Junior Nuria Clau earns third place, her best finish of the season, shooting seven-over par (75-74-74=223). This is the second tournament this season that Clau has finished in the top 10. She finished tied for seventh place at the Dodge ACC/SEC Shootout in Destin, Fla.
Junior Maria Beautell saw her best finish of the season, maintaining tied for 21st place competing as an individual. Beautell shot 16-over 216 (79-75-78=232). Sophomore Deborah Means carded tied for 27th place, shooting 18-over par (74-84-76=234). Means improved from her standing of tied for 32nd place yesterday after two rounds.
Both senior Katie Brenny and freshman Christine Hallstrom finished tied for 32nd place after three rounds of competition. Brenny improved from her tied for 39th status yesterday to shoot 19-over par (81-79-75=235). Hallstrom dropped from tied for 26th place shooting 19-over par as well (83-73-79=235). Hallstrom recorded her best 18-hole score of 73 and earned her best finish of the season.
Junior Caroline Stetler dropped to finishing tied for 50th place after finishing 47th yesterday. Stetler shot 26-over 216 (79-82-81=242) to finish the tournament.
Duke won both team and individual honors at the Tar Heel Invitational. Duke led the field with a score of 921 and individually Kristina Engstrom edged Nicki Cutler of Vanderbilt, shooting three-over par (73-76-70=219). For more information visit www.golfstat.com.
