Chat Wrap With Craig Dawson
11/19/2001 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Tom (Madison, OH): How badly can you school your uncle, Jerry Stackhouse?
Craig Dawson: (12:56 PM ET ) It's been awhile since we have played one on one. But I have beaten him about three times. It is very fulfilling to beat someone playing pro ball!!
Cameron (High Point, NC): Craig you are an exciting player to watch and a great shooter! How has the team adjusted to Coach Prosser's style of coaching?
Craig Dawson: (12:57 PM ET ) I think we have adjusted well. It is totally different. But we have all adjusted well.
Winston-Salem: First off, best of luck to you and the rest of the demon deacons this season. Secondly, in your opinion, what must happen to finally get this team over the hump in january, february, and march to challenge Duke and Maryland atop the ACC?
Craig Dawson: (12:58 PM ET ) I think consistency is our biggest thing. Just playing hard for 40 minutes. We are just trying to play hard. With our new style of play it should keep us in contention with those teams.
Kevin (SF): What do you expect from Fresno State on Wednrsday? Can they beat you guys?
Craig Dawson: (12:59 PM ET ) I haven't seen them play at all. I'm expecting a very hard game. I know they beat USC so they are a good team. We have to expect everything from them.
Rick (Winston-Salem): How do you like the new student seating arrangement? Do you think that it will help you guys during the ACC season at all?
Craig Dawson: (12:59 PM ET ) It should help us. They will be behind us and it's a great situation. I know the students will love it.
Gerald, Columbus, OH: Who do you think will be your toughiest opponent in the ACC this year?
Craig Dawson: (1:00 PM ET ) All of them will be tough!! This is a really strong league from top to bottom. They are all capable of beating a top team on any given night.
South Deacota: Craig, you have played with the current group of seniors for the last three years and with Antwan Scott and Ervin Murray for the last six or so including summerball. Can you tell us what it feels like knowing this may be the last time you play organized ball with two great guys like Twan and Erv?
Craig Dawson: (1:01 PM ET ) It feels great to play with those guys. We have been together so long. It will feel different not having those guys around .. it will be disappointing, but life goes on.
Ralph Kitley (Winston-Salem): What have been some of your best experiences so far at Wake Forest in your 3+ years there?
Craig Dawson: (1:02 PM ET ) I think just playing in the ACC and getting to play at MSG every year. It's the best arena in the country.
Tom (Madison, OH): Tell us about Antwan Scott and what he adds to the team. He seems to be really responding well to the increased time that Coach Prosser is giving him.
Craig Dawson: (1:03 PM ET ) He really is. Everyone knew he was capable of playing, he just wanted to get into a more uptempo style. He is thriving in the system right now.
Rob (St. Clairsville, OH): How important is it to get some key contributions out of the three deacon freshmen this year. Vytus looked much more comfortable out on the court last night. Is this a sign of great things to come?
Craig Dawson: (1:04 PM ET ) I really hope so. They are a big key to what this team can do. We are not very tall and we can't have our big guys in foul trouble.
South Deacota: Craig, I understand there have been some noticeable changes with the basketball program since the arrival of Skip and I am sure you are beseiged with questions regarding the coaching philosophy of Skip versus Dave Odom. How about telling us what you and your teammates think of the new uniforms. Thanks, and here's to a great season.
Craig Dawson: (1:05 PM ET ) They are OK. They are a lot different and that is what coach wanted to bring to the program .. not have the same old thing. I think they are pretty good.
Da bear: what college player would you most like to play one on one with?
Craig Dawson: (1:06 PM ET ) Never thought about that before! I think it would be interesting to play Juan Dixon or Roger Mason. I've never gone one on one with those guys ..
Kirk (Charlotte, NC): Last year against Kansas was truly a breakout game for you and the Deacons. You face them again at Kansas this year...I know you are focusing on one game at a time but has that game been one that the team has circled on the calander?
Craig Dawson: (1:07 PM ET ) I'm really looking forward to that game. They will be ready for us considering what happened last year. Things just went well for us last year. But we really have to be ready because they will have a chip on their shoulder.
George (Charleston SC): Craig, do you like the tatoo that your teammate A.W. Hamilton has?
Craig Dawson: (1:07 PM ET ) The newest one he has is his grandfather on his chest.
Chill (Atlanta): How's your shoulder holding up? Hope to see you guys back in Atlanta this post-season. Go Deacs!
Craig Dawson: (1:08 PM ET ) It's feeling great. No problems at all. It has just gotten stronger and stronger. Hopefully I won't ever have problems with it again.
Jeremy(West Springfield, MA): What have been some primary changes that the team has tried to make to improve on last year's season?
Craig Dawson: (1:09 PM ET ) Being more consistent with rebounding and free throws, and limiting the other teams options. We feel like the more possessions we get the better chance we have to win.
Mark (New York City): First, looking forward to seeing Wake play in November in the NIT & December against St. John's. How much progress do you think has been made adjusting to the new system and what still needs to be done?
Craig Dawson: (1:11 PM ET ) I think a lot of progress has been made but we aren't where we want to be yet. We haven't had much practice time yet. With the press, we just have to be more consistent, get more steals, and we will be fine.
I appreciate the chance to chat and answer your questions. We'll do this again soon ... take care everyone!
