Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, two teams battling for an upper division finish in the ACC race, meet Wednesday night at Lawrence Joel Coliseum (7:30 p.m./no TV).
The Demon Deacons, 16-7 overall and 5-6 in the ACC, is looking to gain momentum and consistency after snapping a six-game road losing streak at Florida State Saturday, 71-65.
Senior Robert O'Kelley came off the bench to score 18 points Saturday to lead Wake. The Yellow Jackets, 14-8 and 6-5, is one of the ACC's hottest teams after beating No. 13 Maryland (72-62) Tuesday and No. 6 Virginia (62- 56) Sunday. Tony Akins scored 19 points, Halston Lane added 15 points and Alvin Jones had 14 rebounds in Sunday's win over Virginia.
Georgia Tech won the first meeting this season between the two teams, 95-89, in Atlanta. The all-time series is tied, 24-24. Much Still To Be Determined In ACC Race
How important are the remaining five games on the Wake Forest schedule? Consider that the Deacons, 5-6 in the ACC, can finish as high as third place, or as low as seventh place, in the final ACC stand-ings.
Since 1993,Wake Forest and North Carolina are the only ACC teams that have finished fifth or higher every season.
Four teams -- Maryland (6-5), Georgia Tech (6-5),Wake Forest (5- 6) and Virginia (5-6) -- are bunched in the middle of the league stand-ings. Wake's next two games come at home against two of those teams -- Georgia Tech (Wednesday) and Maryland (Saturday).
