Deacons Complete Lady Gator In 16th Place

Gainesville, FL The 15th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team completed competition at the 2001 SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, FL in 16th place after shooting a 309 on the last day of play for a three-round 938.
The Deacons were led by sophomore Nuria Clau, who placed in a three-way tie for 18th place after carding a seven-over 223. Clau posted her best score of the tournament in the final round, shooting a one-over 73. Sophomore Caroline Stetler continued her solid play, carding a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for 48th place. Stetler shot a 74 in the second round of the event after completing the first day with an 84. Freshman Deb Means also shot a 75 in the final round, compiling a three-round score of 236. It marked the lowest score of the tournament for Means. Junior Camille Lee dropped to 83rd place with a three-round 247, shooting an 86 after finishing the first two rounds with an 81 and 80. Junior Veronica Prado-Lacoste rounded out the Wake Forest five, finishing the tournament with a 258, good for 89th place.
Auburn took team honors after leading the event each day. The Tigers shot a tournament-low 286 in the final round to wrap up the Lady Gator with a three-round team score of 868, 10 strokes ahead of second-place Georgia. Georgia's Summer Sirmons took the individual title after defeating Tennessee's Young-A Yang in a playoff. Each player carded a 213 through the event.
The Deacons will take a week off before competing once again on an SEC course. Wake will hit the links next at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, SC March 15-18.
