Wake Forest Teams Perform Well At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IN-- The Wake Forest University men's and women's track & field teams competed Friday and Saturday in the 2001 Meyo Indoor Invitational at Notre Dame. Both teams performed well across the board and both provisionally qualified a member in the 3,000-Meter Run for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Chris Estwanik placed third in the 3,000-Meter Run with a NCAA provisionally qualifying time of 8:10.25. Garick Hill led the Deacs in the 5,000-Meter Run finishing 15th with a time of 14:33.35. Taking third place in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:02.58, Wake Forest placed 7th in the Mile Relay. J.T. Kuretich led the team in the long jump with a distance of 21'8.25? for eighth place and finished 15th in the 60-Meter Hurdles with a 8.61. Cliff Neal finished seventh in the 35-pound weight throw, tossing it 54 feet. Patrick Ladapo tied for third in the 60-Meter Dash with a time of 6.91 and took eighth in the 200-Meter Dash with a 22.14.
Ryan Hamilton led Wake Forest in the 400-Meter Dash, placing tenth with a 49.59. Paul Singleton was the Deacons' top finisher in the 800-Meter Run, crossing the line 11th with a 1:53.19. Josh Buffolino was the runner-up in the 1,000-Meter Run with a 2:28.51. Nathan Sisco won the Mile Run with a time of 4:10.96. T.J. Thompson tied for 12th place in the high jump, clearing 6'2.75?. Zach Hamilton led the Deacon pole vaulters with a height of 14'6? putting him in 12th place. DaVaughn Mellerson heaved the shot put 49'7.75? to take eighth place.
Sara Day, who provisionally qualified in the 3,000-Meter Run earlier this season, bettered her time with a 9:32.81 on Saturday, good for third place. Jill Snyder won the 1,000-Meter Run, shattering the school record with a 2:49.87. Shauna Danos, who broke the school record in the 500-Meter Run three weeks ago with a 1:15.31, bettered that time with a 1:15.21 Saturday, but took second to Wake Forest freshman Nikeya Green who won the race and broke the school record with a 1:14.91. Carol Merritt, who broke the school record in the 200-Meter Run two weeks ago, came within a second of breaking the school record in the 400-Meter Run Saturday, clocking a 58.38 for tenth place.
Risa Rutland took fourth place in the 5,000-Meter Run with a time of 17.41.46. The Demon Deacons won the Distance Medley, clocking a 11:45.52 and placed second in the mile relay with a time of 3:54.80. Jill Kovalcik led the team in the pole vault, clearing ten feet for sixth place. Summer Shaw led the Deacs in the 800-Meter Run with a 2:12.32 for sixth place. Jamie Grayzer led the squad in the 60-Meter Hurdles taking ninth place with a 9:40. Sandra Jenkins won the shot put, chucking it 41'10.
