Deacs Complete First Round Of Lady Gamecock In Fifth

Columbia, SC - The Wake Forest women's golf team enters the second round of the Lady Gamecock Classic in fifth place at the University Club in Columbia, SC. After one round of play, the Deacons carded a 308 as a team.
The Deacons were led by junior Camille Lee, who shot a team-low four-over 76 to tie for 16th place. It marks the first time that Lee has led the Deacons in a given round in her career. Sophomore Maria Beautell also topped the Wake Forest lineup, finishing with a 76 to tie teammate Lee in the 16th spot. Sophomore Nuria Clau and freshman Deb Means each carded a six-over 78 and will begin the second round of play in a tie for 24th place. Sophomore Caroline Stetler rounded out the Deacon lineup after the first 18 holes. Stetler is tied for 34th place after shooting an eight-over 80 in the first round.
Four players are tied for the individual lead. Furman's Jennifer Perri, LSU's Meredith Duncan, Mississippi State's Lina Thoren and Angela Jerman from Georgia each carded an even-par 72 after one round. The University of Georgia sits atop the team standings, finishing with a one-round 295, four strokes ahead of second-place Duke.
The Deacons will resume play in the Lady Gamecock Classic on Saturday morning, with the final round to be played in a shotgun start on Sunday in Columbia, SC.
