CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The Wake Forest baseball team completed a three-game sweep of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with an 11-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. The Demon Deacons capture a regular season sweep over the Tar Heels for the second straight year and extend their winning streak against UNC to seven games.

Senior Cory Sullivan earned the win in his first career start on the mound after throwing seven innings while giving up just one run. Sullivan also enjoyed a 4-for-5 day at the plate with a home run and a double.

Wake Forest put the game away with a five-run fifth inning capped by sophomore Ryan Johnson's grand slam to center field. The Demon Deacons played long ball as ten of the team's 11 runs scored courtesy of home runs. Wake Forest hit four homers on the day, finishing the series with a total of eight.

The Demon Deacons got on the board immediately when Sullivan led off the game with a shot over the right field wall. All three of Sullivan's three home runs this season have been leadoff home runs.

In the second inning, Matt Price got aboard with two outs when strike three got past the UNC catcher and went to the backstop. Jamie Athas followed and made the Tar Heels pay with his two-run homer, his first of the season.

Winston-Salem freshman Steve LeFaivre capped the scoring for the Deacons with a two-run pinch-hit homer, his second straight day with a home run.

The Deacons put together a tremendous weekend at the plate compiling 35 runs on 42 hits in three games.

"I think we have a team of good hitters. Our approach and concentration was outstanding all weekend long," head coach George Greer said. "Cory Sullivan was outstanding today. I thought he changed speeds real well and once he got over the initial nervousness of pitching and out of a couple of tough situations, he gained a lot of confidence."

The only down note of the day was the end of senior third baseman Corey Slavik's career-long 20-game hitting streak. Slavik finished the day 0-for-4. Jamie Athas inherits the title of longest current hitting streak. He has hit safely in 17 consecutive contests.

Wake Forest, 17-4 and 5-1 in the ACC, returns home to take on Charlotte on Tuesday. First pitch at Hooks Stadium is at 3:00 p.m.
