Wake Golfers Finish Strong At Lady Gamecock

Columbia, SC - The Wake Forest women's golf squad compiled an impressive showing in its second spring tournament, finishing fourth with a team score of 925 at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, SC Sunday afternoon.
The Deacons carded their lowest score of the event and the third-best team score of the day in the final round, shooting a 305 on the final 18. Sophomore Maria Beautell was Wake's top finisher, grabbing a 13th place finish with a three-round 227. Beautell carded a season-low 74 on the second 18 holes on Saturday. Sophomore Nuria Clau provided the Deacs' second top-20 finish, placing 18th with a three-round score of 231. Clau shot a 75 in the final round to finish 15 over for the tournament. Freshman Deb Means tied six other individuals for 24th place. Means sandwiched a second-round 81 with a 78 in rounds one and three to finish with a 237. Sophomore Caroline Stetler earned the best finish of her career, finishing with a 240, good for a tie for 31st place. Stetler shot a 75 in the final round after carding an 80 and 85 through the first two rounds. Junior Camille Lee rounded out the Deacon five, finishing 37th with a 244.
Duke University overtook Georgia for the team title. The Bulldogs led through two rounds, but the Blue Devils compiled a 296 on the final 18 holes to take team honors with a three-round 887. Georgia's Angela Jerman earned individual honors, defeating LSU's Katy Harris in a playoff. Jerman and Harris each shot a three-over 219 to end the tournament.
The Deacons will next travel to Athens, GA, where they will compete in the Liz Murphey Collegiate March 30-April 1.
