Wake Golfers Complete Liz Murphey In Fifth Place

Athens, GA - The Wake Forest women's golf squad wrapped up the final round of play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic with a three-round team score of 932, after shooting a 303 in Saturday's round at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The score gave the Deacons fifth place, 30 strokes behind team champion Duke.
Sophomore Maria Beautell used a third-round score of one-over 73 to break into a tie for third place with four other individuals with a 54-hole score of 224. Beautell carded the lowest score of the day in the final round, finishing with a one-over 73. It marked the first time this season that a Wake golfer has finished in the top 10. Senior Marta Prieto also inched her way into the top 20, jumping from 35th place after two rounds into a three-way tie for 20th place. Prieto shot a three-round 232 in her first tournament this spring. Junior Katie Brenny and sophomore Nuria Clau each tied for 34th place with a three-round 238. Sophomore Caroline Stetler rounded out the Deacon lineup, finishing in a tie for 83rd place with a three-round 254.
Duke took the team title, finishing with a three-round score of 902 after leading the event after each round. The Blue Devils finished 11 strokes ahead of second-place Georgia, who carded a 913 as a team. Duke's Kalen Anderson overtook Randi Meadows of Texas for first place among individuals, scoring a five-over 221.
Wake Forest will next compete in the Bryan National Collegiate, an event the Deacs co-host with UNC Greensboro, April 6-8 in Browns Summit, NC.
