
Wake Women's Golf Finishes Second At ACC Championships

The Wake Forest women's golf team finished in second place at the 2001 ACC Championships with a team score of 902, three strokes behind champion Duke at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The Deacs came back from 21 strokes behind after two rounds to challenge the Blue Devils in the final round.
Junior Katie Brenny, who shot a personal best two-under 70 in the third round, led a third-round Wake Forest charge which saw the Deacs make up 18 strokes on Duke in the final round. As a team, Wake shot a one-over par 289 while Duke shot a 19-over par 307 in Sunday's final round.
Including Brenny's two-under par 70, Marta Prieto shot a one-under 71, Nuria Clau carded a three-over par 75 and Deborah Means finished with a one-over par 73 on day three of the event. For the tournament, Brenny took second place with a three round 221, while Prieto placed in a tie for third with a 223. Clau tied for sixth place with a 228 for the Deacons. Means took 10th place with a 233, while sophomore Maria Beautell finished 14th with a three round score of 237.
The Deacs will next participate in the NCAA Regional Tournament for a berth to the NCAA Championships in Howey in the Hills, Fla. Wake hits the links again May 10-12.
