Wake In Second Place After One Round At The Bryan

Browns Summit, NC - The Wake Forest women's golf squad placed four players in the top 20 to finish tied with Oklahoma State for second place with a team score of 294 after one round at the Bryan National Collegiate golf tournament. The event, co-hosted by the Deacons with UNCG, is being held at the Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit.
Sophomores Maria Beautell and Nuria Clau each carded even par 72s to tie for fifth place after the first round. Freshman Deb Means collected the best score of her career to date, shooting a 74 on the first 18 holes, including a 36 on the back nine. Means enters tomorrow's round tied for ninth place. Senior Marta Prieto lists tied for 17th after shooting a four-over 76. Junior Katie Brenny, in her second tournament this spring is tied for 76th place after shooting an 84 through one round. Junior Veronica Prado-Lacoste, playing as an individual, scored an 89 in today's round and is tied for 86th place.
Oklahoma State's Linda Wessberg leads all individuals, carding a career-best with a three-under 69. That score ties the tournament record set on three different occasions. Duke sits atop the team standings, shooting a one-round 289, one stroke behind the tournament record set by Indiana in last season's Bryan National.
The Deacons will continue in the second round Saturday morning with a 10:05 tee time, and will wrap up the event in Sunday's final round. The final 18 holes are scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:30 am.
