Women's Golf In 10th Place At East Regional

CHAPEL HILL, NC -- Wake Forest is in 10th place out of 21 teams after 18 holes at the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional at Finley Golf Course.
The Deacons, vying to return to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year, shot a collective score of 306 today, 18-over par. Wake is 20 strokes off the 2-under par pace set by first-place Duke, but the Deacons are just five shots away from sixth place.
Duke is followed by Auburn, which is eight shots behind the Blue Devils after shooting a 294. Georgia is in third place, followed by New Mexico, San Jose State, TCU, South Florida, Louisville, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
Individually, Wake's Marta Prieto shot a first round 2-over par 74 to tie for 13th place. Maria Beautell is one stroke behind Prieto after shooting a 75 today. Other Deacons scorers include Katy Brenny, who shot a 5-over 77 and Nuria Clau, who shot an 8-over 80.
The 54-hole tournament continues Friday and Saturday. The top eight teams and two individuals will move on to the NCAA Championships May 23-26 at the Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.
