Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - Wake Forest golfer Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) struggled in the third round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships on Thursday, shooting an eight-over 80. Prieto, who is competing as an individual, currently sits in a tie for 60th place in the standings heading into Friday's final round. Through three rounds she owns a 14-over par 230 on the par-72, 6,106-yard El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort.
Prieto bogied two holes on the front nine, and made the turn at just two over. Her first hole on the back nine, however, resulted in a score of nine on a par five. She also double-bogied hole No. 16 while shooting par on the other seven to end the day with an 80.
The Deacon senior is 17 strokes off Louisiana State's Katy Harris, who leads the field with a four-under par 212 (72-70-70). Only eight of the 126 players competing have a cumulative score below par at this point of the event.
In the team standings, Duke holds a four-stroke lead over second-place Georgia. Texas and Auburn are tied for third, two strokes back. The fourth and final round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships takes place on Thursday. Prieto will tee off at 8:20 a.m.
