Greensboro, N.C. - Two members of the Wake Forest men's golf team, sophomore Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) and freshman Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.), were named to the 2001 All-Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf team, as announced by the league office this afternoon. Haas was also named the ACC's Rookie of the Year, as selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Wanner and Haas have been Wake Forest's top two players the entire season, and are currently tied for the team lead in stroke average with a 72.5. Wanner, who was named All-ACC and Freshman All-America in 2000, won individual medalist honors at the Duke Classic this past fall. He has posted four other top-10 finishes this season, including a team-best fourth-place finish at the ACC Championships last month.

Haas has come on strong in 2001, dropping his average by over two strokes from the fall to a below-par 71.6 this spring. Haas has also posted five top-10 finishes, including a par of second-place outings at this spring's Birkdale Collegiate Classic and Augusta State Invitational. Haas tied for sixth at the ACC Championships, the best finish among league freshmen.

Wanner and Haas are the 49th and 50th All-ACC selections in Wake Forest's history, which begins with Bill's father, Jay Haas, who picked up two of the school's first conference honors in 1975 and `76. Twenty-eight different Deacons have been tabbed All-ACC over the years, including current head coach Jerry Haas, who earned the honor from 1983-85.

Bill Haas is just the second Deacon to be named ACC Rookie of the Year, as Justin Roof earned the honor in 1994.

The Wake Forest men's golf team will travel to Corvallis, Ore. to compete in the NCAA West Regional from May 17-19. If they finish among the top 10 teams at the regional, the Deacons will advance to the NCAA Championships, held at the Duke University Golf Course in Durham May 30 - June 2.
