
Five Deacons Selected In Major League Baseball Draft

New York, NY -- Five Wake Forest baseball players were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday, headlined by junior reliever Dave Bush who was the fourth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Bush, a second team All-American, became Wake Forest's all-time saves and appearances leader this season. He ranks fourth all-time in saves in the ACC and sixth in appearances.
Bush was joined by senior first team All-American Cory Sullivan, the seventh round selection of the Colorado Rockies. Sullivan, a multi-talented player as an outfielder and a pitcher, was drafted by Colorado as an outfielder.
Another Deacon was picked in the seventh round, shortstop Jamie Athas, by the San Francisco Giants. Athas finished the season on high note, batting .588 in the five games at the NCAA Regional in Knoxville, Tenn.
Senior third baseman Corey Slavik was tabbed in the 10th round by the Chicago Cubs. Slavik was a second team All-ACC third baseman and made the ACC All-Tournament team.
Signee Tim Morley, a left-handed pitcher from Buffalo Grove, Ill., was picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 17th round.
All five Demon Deacons are first time draftees.
