Deacons Sweep Mississippi State 3-0 in Deacon Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team was victorious against the Mississippi State Bulldogs Friday night in the first day of action in the Deacon Invitational. The Demon Deacons faced tough competition but came out on top in three games 30-23, 30-28 and 30-20, and are now 1-0 for the 2001 season.
Senior Trina Maso de Moya led the team with 10 kills and 18 digs, while senior Margaret Davidson totaled 8 kills and 4 block assists. Junior setter Ashlee Phillips directed the Wake Forest offense with 35 assists.
In the first match of the night, Northwestern defeated East Carolina 30-17, 30-25 and 30-20. Leading the attack for the Wildcats was Molly Kamp with 17 kills. Drew Robertson posted 29 assists and 9 digs.
Tomorrow's lineup includes four matches played at Reynolds Gym.
Northwestern v. Mississippi State 11 a.m.
Wake Forest v. East Carolina 1 p.m.
East Carolina v. Mississippi State 5 p.m.
Wake Forest v. Northwestern 7 p.m.
