Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Mason Rudolph Championships

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished sixth out of 14 teams in the Mason Rudolph Championships for their first tournament of the 2001-02 season, turning in a final round of 909.
The Demon Deacons placed ahead of ACC competitors Florida State (10th, +57) and NC State (13th, +75), but behind North Carolina (fifth, +38).
Deacon junior Nuria Clau led Wake Forest, finishing 12th with six-over 216 (74-74-74). Clau advanced one spot in the standings after posting four-over 144 on Monday.
Sophomore Deborah Means finished tied for 14th place with eight-over 216 (77-71-76). Means posted a personal best 18-hole with a score of 71, beating her previous 73 score for the 2000-01 season.
Junior Caroline Stetler dropped four spots in the standings after posting nine-over 144 on Monday. Stetler tied for 35th with a 15-over 216 (75-78-78). Senior Katie Brenny wasn't far behind finishing the tournament in a tie for 37th-place with 16-over 216 (78-75-79). Freshman Christine Hallstrom had her collegiate tournament debut finishing tied for 37th with 22-over par (78-80-80).
The 54-hole intercollegiate tournament is the only Division I tournament in the nation that concurrently hosted men's and women's events at the same site.
Ohio State University claimed the title for the women and the University of Alabama claimed it for the men. Jennifer Perri of Furman took the individual title for the women and Codie Mudd of Mississippi State won for the men.
The Deacons return to action Sept. 28-30, when they travel to Destin, Fla. to compete in the Dodge ACC/ SEC Challenge. The tournament is hosted by Florida State University and will take place at Sandestin Resort.
