ROCK HILL, SC - The Wake Forest women's cross country team took sixth place at the Great American Cross Country Festival Friday evening at Winthrop Farm Meadows with a team score of 211. A pair of freshmen led the 21st ranked Demon Deacons in the 31-team, 5,000-Meter Run. Anne Bersagel took 29th place with a time of 18:02.9 and fellow freshman Danielle Coon was five seconds behind her to finish 32nd.

Risa Rutland placed 34th in 18:10.1, Adralyn Wendel took 57th in 18:42.5 and Catherine Fortin-Major finished 59th in 18:46.5 to round out Wake Forest's scoring five. Other Demon Deacons competing included Nikeya Green (91st, 19:03.7), Courtney Lancashire (99th, 19:10.5), Denise Hefferin (103rd, 19:18.3), Caitlin Dempsey (117th, 19:33.0), Kara Mullin (146th, 19:54.6) and Val Waldron (151st, 19:58.7).

Wake Forest head coach Annie Schweitzer Bennett decided to add the Great American Cross Country Festival to the Demon Deacons' schedule after last Saturday's Wake Forest Open was canceled due to the national tragedies.

The Demon Deacons will return to action Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, MN. Complete results from the Great American Cross Country Festival are available at: dyestat.com.
