Women's Golf To Participate In ACC/SEC Shootout

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team will travel to Destin, Fla. this weekend to compete in the ACC/SEC Shootout hosted by Florida State. The second annual Dodge ACC/SEC Women's Golf Shootout is held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort this Friday, Sept. 28 - Sunday, Sept. 30.
The event is being played at the 5,937-yard, par 71 Raven Course at the Sandestin Beach and Golf Resort. There will be 11 teams (five ACC, five SEC and Furman) to play 18 holes over three days with individual, team and conference champions being determined.
The ACC is represented by No. 31 Florida State, No. 46 Maryland, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 45 NC State and No. 17 Wake Forest. The SEC is represented by South Carolina, No. 40 Mississippi State, Alabama, No. 29 Florida and Kentucky. No. 5 Furman will also compete. The rankings are according to www.golfweek.com on Sept. 22.
Auburn won the inaugural team championship, Celeste Troche of Auburn won the individual championship and the SEC claimed the conference title during the inaugural ACC/SEC Shootout in 2000.
Wake Forest's finished sixth at its previous fall tournament, the Mason Rudolph Championships. Junior Nuria Clau finished twelfth shooting six-over 216 (74-74-74). Sophomore Deborah Means tied for fourteenth with eight-over 216 (77-71-76). Junior Caroline Stetler tied for 35th with 15-over 216 (75-78-78). Senior Katie Brenny tied for 37th place with 16-over 216 (78-75-79). Freshman Christine Hallstrom tied for 57th place with 22-over 216 (78-80-80).
The Demon Deacons will be led by junior Nuria Clau, ranked 37th and sophomore Deborah Means ranked 56th by www.golfweek.com
