WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team fell to North Carolina Friday night after battling back in the third game. The Demon Deacons lost 28-30, 28-30, 30-25 and 27-30 to the Tar Heels, dropping to 6-5 overall, 1-2 ACC.
After their loss to Radford, Wake Forest was ready for a victory, but came up short tonight versus North Carolina. The Deacs put up a battle losing the first two games by only two points. They proceeded to take the third but the Tar Heels' offense was too much to handle, losing 30-27 in the fourth game.
Head coach Valorie Baker felt her team fought hard and looks forward to their next meeting with Carolina.
"I think both sides played extremely hard. The ball game could have gone either way. We need to cut our errors to put ourselves in a better position," said Baker. "Offensively we did some nice things that we can grow on. We are looking forward to our next match with Carolina."
Senior Trina Maso de Moya stepped up registering 22 kills and a match high 25 digs along with three blocks for the Demon Deacons. Sophomore Sara Beth DeLisle played her best game of the season contributing 16 kills and 15 digs of her own. Junior setter Ashlee Phillips led the Deacon offense with 54 assists.
