Women's Golf Takes Third Place At ACC/SEC Shootout

DESTIN, Fla. - The Wake Forest women's golf team earned its best finish of the 2001 fall season, placing third at the Dodge ACC/SEC Shootout in Destin, Fla. Wake scored 909 after three rounds, just behind first place Florida and second place Mississippi State.
Wake Forest was the top scoring ACC team, finishing ahead of ACC rivals North Carolina (sixth), Florida State (eighth), NC State (10th) and Maryland (11th).
Individually, Nuria Clau led the Deacon squad finishing tied for seventh place with 11-over 213 (75-77-72), her best finish so far this season. Clau improved from her 13th standing after two rounds. She posted her best 18-hole score of the season with 72 in the third round.
Other top-20 finishers include sophomore Deborah Means and junior Caroline Stetler. Means finished tied for 11th place with 12-over 213 (79-73-73), her best finish so far this season. Stetler finished tied for 13th place with 13-over 213 (74-75-77), her best finish for the 2001 fall season as well. Stetler posted her best 18-hole score of the season with 74 in the first round and posted her best 54-hole score of 226 of the season.
Other Wake Forest contributors were senior Katie Brenny and junior Maria Beautell. Brenny finished tied for 30th place with 26-over 213 (78-83-78), her best finish of the 2001 fall season. Brenny improved from her 33rd standing after two rounds. Beautell dropped to tied for 41st place after her 33rd standing yesterday. Beautell shot 32-over par (74-87-84). She recorded her best 18-hole finish of the 2001 fall season with 74.
Florida finished in first place with 892 and individually Kristy McPherson of South Carolina held on to first place with four-over 213 (71-70-76). For more information refer to www.golfstat.com.
