Demon Deacons Dropping At ACC Men's Tennis Indoors

The ACC Men's Tennis Indoor Championships continued action Saturday at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center. The remaining four Demon Deacons in the singles draw were eliminated in the third round. Wake Forest lasted to the semifinals in the doubles draw, but Derrick Spice earned two victories in the consolation singles draw to advance to the quarterfinals.
Spice beat Rodrigo Laub from Florida State 6-3, 6-1 and then topped Viginia's Dan Lempa 6-0, 6-1 in the second round of the consolation singles draw to advance to the quarterfinals. Spice and doubles partner, Mike Murray, advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw when their Georgia Tech opponents withdrew, but then lost to North Carolina's Geoff Boyd and Nicholas Monroe 9-7 in the quarterfinals.
In the main singles draw, David Bere fell 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 to Jason Zimmerman from Duke in the third round. Justin Kaufmann lost 6-2, 6-4 in the third round to Monroe. Murray dropped a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 decision to Trysten Menaine from North Carolina and David Loewenthal had to withdraw after his second round victory Friday because of an injured right quadriceps.
