
Volleyball Swept By #11 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team jumped out to an early lead on No. 11 North Carolina Friday night, but couldn't sustain the momentum, falling in three games by scores of 30-25, 30-21 and 30-24. In front of a constantly growing crowd of 5,623 raucous fans eagerly anticipating the Midnight Madness basketball event that followed the volleyball game, the Demon Deacons (8-10, 2-3 ACC) led by as many as seven in game one before relinquishing the lead at 23-24 to the Tar Heels (17-1, 5-0).
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Valerie Rydberg led Wake Forest with 13 kills, hitting .435 and coming up with nine digs. Junior outside hitter Sarah Beth DeLisle also chipped in 13 kills and eight digs. Senior setter Ashlee Phillips had 41 assists to go with two service aces, six digs, a solo block and three kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Tawni Schulte had 12 digs on the evening.
North Carolina, hitting .330 as a team for the match, was led by Molly Pyles with her .500 attack percentage, 13 kills and 11 digs.
Wake Forest returns to action tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in Raleigh against NC State.
