Harrisonburg, Va. - The fourth-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team defeated sixth-ranked Penn State 6-1 today at James Madison's Bridgeforth Stadium. Behind three goals from senior Heather Aughinbaugh, the Deacons got their ninth consecutive win, running their record to 11-2 (3-0 ACC).

Penn State took an early 1-0 lead on a penalty stroke in the early going, but Wake answered back when Aughinbaugh scored an unassisted goal to tie the game. Later in the half, freshman Maeke Boreel fed classmate Ariel Meyers, who found the back of the cage to give Wake Forest the 2-1 lead at halftime.

Wake Forest carried the momentum into the second half as sophomore Kelly Dostal notched an unassisted goal to put the Deacons ahead, 3-1. Aughinbaugh then got her second goal of the game off a penalty corner, taking a pass from junior Kelly Doton. Just minutes later, Doton found Meyers and the freshman netted her second tally of the game. On a fitting final goal, Doton found Aughinbaugh, who completed the hat trick, while Doton recorded her third assist of the game, giving the Demon Deacons the 6-1 victory.

Wake Forest will return home on Sunday, October 13 to play Appalachian State at Kentner Stadium. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
