Volleyball Falls 3-1 To No. 20 Georgia Tech

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team played 20th-ranked Georgia Tech close Saturday night, but lost 3-1 by scores of 30-27, 30-26, 28-30, 30-25 at Reynolds Gym. The Demon Deacons led by as many as four in game one, three in game four, tied game two once and won the third, but could not keep the pesky Yellow Jackets down.
Wake Forest equaled Georgia Tech in kills with 64, but the Yellow Jackets were more accurate, hitting .287 as a team to the Demon Deacons attack percentage of .210. The Rambling Wreck also outblocked the Deacs 39-17.
Sophomore middle blocker Kim Stern put away a career high 21 kills to lead Wake Forest and also posted five blocks. Freshman middle blocker Christy Williams and junior outside hitter Ashley Fisher chipped in 11 kills each. Senior setter Ashlee Phillips dished out 56 assists on the night and redshirt freshman outside hitter Valerie Rydberg totaled 14 digs.
Lauren Sauer led Georgia Tech with 21 kills, hitting .436 and also had five blocks. Jayme Gergen posted eight blocks, Blair Moon and Kele Eveland had 11 digs each. Eveland also tallied 56 assists.
Georgia Tech improves to 20-4 overall and 6-2 in the ACC with the win and Wake Forest falls to 10-11 overall and 4-4 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow evening (Sunday, Oct. 20) when they begin their second lap through the ACC, by hosting Florida State at 5:00 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
