Volleyball Pummels East Tennessee State

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Wake Forest volleyball team picked apart East Tennessee with deadly accuracy Tuesday night at Brooks Gym. Sweeping the Buccaneers 3-0 by scores of 30-19, 30-17, 30-18, Wake Forest only had eight attacking errors the entire match. The Demon Deacons had a team attack percentage of .515 and had eight players hit over .400.
Sophomore outside hitter Tarah Shelton led the Deacons offensively with 12 kills and no errors, hitting a career high .632 on the night to go with six digs. Jessica Hauff and Sara Beth DeLisle chipped in 10 kills each as Hauff had a .692 attacking percentage and four blocks while DeLisle had a career high .643 attack percentage to go with nine digs and a pair of blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Tawni Schulte led the way defensively, collecting 11 digs and senior setter Ashlee Phillips handed out 21 assists in two games before turning the reins over to freshman Erin Borhart, who registered 10 assists.
Nicole Ryan led ETSU with 11 kills and Rachel Shifflet added 10 kills. Renee Vesey had 29 assists and Karen Freeburg came up with 11 digs.
Wake Forest improves to 11-12 overall with the win and East Tennessee State falls to 5-16 with the loss. The Demon Deacons return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when they host Duke at 7:00 p.m. in a match originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26.
