Schwartz Falls In Qualifying Singles

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 2002 Omni Hotels ITA Southeast Region Championships got started Thursday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center with qualifying singles action and first round doubles competition. Danielle Schwartz, the lone Demon Deacon playing today, lost in the opening round of qualifying singles.
Schwartz fell 6-3, 6-1 to Meggie Patterson from Davidson. She teams up with Katie Martzolf in doubles play tomorrow as they are slated to take on Ellen Rogers and Wendy Rohr from Wofford at 5:00 p.m.
The rest of Wake Forest's team begins singles action tomorrow as Karin Coetzee plays at 8:00 a.m., Elizabeth Proctor goes at 9:30, Aimee Smith at 10:00 and Martzolf starts at noon. Coetzee and Smith will play their first doubles match at 6:00 p.m.
The Omni Hotels ITA Southeast Region Championships continues tomorrow and concludes on Monday, Oct. 28. The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist qualify for the Omni Hotels ITA National Indoor Championships in Dallas Nov. 7-10.
