WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 13th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped its dual match play opener 4-3 to visiting Yale early Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons won two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Bulldogs captured four of six singles matches for the upset victory.

"Yale had nothing to lose, did what they needed to do to win and we underestimated them," said Wake Forest head coach Brian Fleishman. "I thought our number one and number two doubles teams played really well and I'm not just saying that because they won either. They have really come a long way and have improved so much. Those two teams are going to be a huge key to our success this year. Karin (Coetzee) is so talented. She really showed that she is capable of leading this team. She let her racquet do the talking and got it done. Danielle (Schwartz) showed some guts today with her win. That is the highest that she has ever played in the lineup before and she played with a lot of pride."

Coetzee made quick work of Yale's Margaret Purcell in the No. 1 singles match, winning 6-1, 6-2 and teamed up with Aimee Smith to dispatch Elizabeth Kaufman and Stephanie White 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match. Schwartz fought past Yale's Susan Hiniker 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) in the No. 3 singles match and partnered with Katie Martzolf to fend off Kiniker and Karlyn Martin 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles match.

It was a reunion of sorts, as Yale second year head coach Chad Skorupka previously worked at Wake Forest as an assistant coach under Fleishman. Skorupka's assistant at Yale, Maren Haus, graduated last spring from Wake Forest, where she played under Fleishman for four years and was teammates with Wake Forest assistant coach, Janet Bergman, who also graduated last spring and played four years under Fleishman.

Wake Forest falls to 0-1 with the loss and Yale improves to 6-0 with the win. The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow, when they host No. #47 Indiana at noon in the Indoor Tennis Center.
