Coetzee Advances To Quarterfinals of ITA Southeast Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Karin Coetzee, a member of the Wake Forest women's tennis team, won her singles match Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals, but the rest of the Demon Deacons were eliminated at the Omni Hotels ITA Southeast Region Championships in the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
Both Wake Forest doubles teams lost 8-6 in the Round of 16 to Tar Heel tandems as Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz lost 8-6 to Marlene Mejia and Aniela Mojzis, while Coetzee and Aimee Smith lost 8-6 to Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck.
Coetzee took out Julia Smith from Duke 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16. She will face top-seeded and eighth-ranked Kate Pinchbeck from North Carolina in the quarterfinals Sunday morning.
Martzolf lost 7-5, 6-2 to Aniela Mojzis from North Carolina in the Round of 16.
The Omni Hotels ITA Southeast Region Championships continues tomorrow and concludes on Monday, Oct. 28. The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist qualify for the Omni Hotels ITA National Indoor Championships in Dallas Nov. 7-10.
