Coetzee Wins Singles Crown At Deacon Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Karin Coetzee of the Wake Forest women's tennis team won the top singles draw Sunday morning in the Deacon Classic at Wake Forest's Leighton Stadium. She upset her nationally ranked teammate, #75 Katie Martzolf, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to remain unbeaten this season.
Martzolf and doubles partner, Danielle Schwartz, lost 8-2 in the finals to Muth and Wei from William & Mary. Schwartz captured the singles Flight C consolation crown in straight sets, winning 7-5, 6-1 over Kate LaCoste from UNC Greensboro.
Coetzee and Aimee Smith fought past the Tribe's Olsen and Yang for third place in the doubles Flight A. Smith won a heated three-plus hour consolation singles match 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 over Virginia's Marta Bechliwanis.
Elizabeth Proctor took Nina Kamp from William & Mary three sets before losing 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the finals of singles Flight B.
