Volleyball Sweeps Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest volleyball team picked up a conference road win with a 3-0 sweep over Virginia Saturday night at University Hall. Posting scores of 30-24, 30-21, 30-24, the Demon Deacons hit well, recording a team attack percentage of .290, including a red-hot .423 attack percentage in game two.
Junior middle blocker Jessica Hauff and redshirt freshman outside hitter Valerie Rydberg led Wake Forest with 11 kills each and Hauff added five blocks while Rydberg contributed three service aces and 10 digs. Senior setter Ashlee Phillips handed out 42 assists and led the team with 12 digs while freshman middle blocker Christy Williams came off the bench to chip in nine kills and four blocks in two games.
Alexis Geocaris led Virginia with 13 kills to go with three blocks. Lily Phillips had 35 assists, along with eight digs and three blocks.
Wake Forest improves to 12-14 overall and 5-7 in the ACC with the win and Virginia falls to 7-21 overall and 1-11 in the ACC with the loss. The Demon Deacons return to action next week when they return home to host NC State at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 and No. 13 North Carolina at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Reynolds Gym.
