WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team picked up its second straight shutout conference win with a 3-0 victory over NC State Friday night at Reynolds Gym. Posting scores of 30-25, 30-22, 30-22, the Demon Deacons completed the regular season sweep over the Wolfpack by winning both matches this season, home and away. Both teams had 115 attacks, but Wake Forest was more accurate, recording 52 kills to NC State's 40.
"It was a good win," said Wake Forest head coach Valorie Baker. "Ashley Fisher hit well tonight and did a real nice job for us. Sara Beth DeLisle played really well and Christy Williams came in and hit well to give us a real boost. Jessica Hauff had a great match too. Our middles were solid tonight. We played real consistent and whenever we made a couple errors in a row we were able to stop and turn it around. It is good to beat NC State in three games after going four games with them last time and that gives us a shot of confidence going into a tough match against UNC tomorrow."
Six Demon Deacons had attacking percentages over .300 and outside hitter Ashley Fisher led Wake Forest with 10 kills, only committing three attack errors and adding eight digs as well. Junior outside hitter Sara Beth DeLisle led the way defensively, coming up with 11 digs and adding nine kills as well. Freshman middle blocker Christy Williams came off the bench to hit .462 in two games, putting away eight kills with only two errors. Junior middle blocker Jessica Hauff posted seven kills on 13 attacks with no errors for a .538 attack percentage in addition to a pair of service aces and a block. Senior setter Ashlee Phillips handed out 29 assists to go with three aces, five digs and five kills with no errors in two games before turning the reins over to freshman setter Erin Borhart who recorded 11 assists, two digs, one block and two kills in game three.
Adeola Kosoko led NC State with 12 kills to go with five digs and one service ace and Rebecca Anderson chipped in 11 kills, three digs and one block. Kayla Ragan and Casey Wyatt each had seven digs and Lindi Sheppard registered 34 assists.
Wake Forest improves to 13-14 overall and 6-7 in the ACC with the win and NC State falls to 3-27 overall and 0-12 in the ACC with the loss. The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9, when they host No. 12 North Carolina at 7:00 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
