Three highly-rated prep golfers will join the Wake Forest women's program in the 2003-04 season, WFU head coach Dianne Dailey announced today. Jessica Castle, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Amanda Goins, of Frankfort, Ky., and Maggie Simons, of Raleigh, N.C. all signed national letters-of-intent during the early signing period, which began last week.
Castle is the winner of the 2001 AJGA event in Kingwood, Texas and runner up in the 2001 Western Junior Amateur. She led St. Thomas Aquinas High School to the 2001 State High School Championship and was the 2000 IJGT Player of the Year. Castle competes on the AJGA and has numerous top-five finishes.
??Jessica is one of the top juniors in the country,?? Dailey said, ??She brings a wealth of tournament experience to our team. She has a solid game overall and is very competitive. She has had a lot of success and knows how to win.??
Goins is the 2002 Kentucky Women??s State Amateur Champion and the 2002 Hudson Junior Champion. She qualified for the match play of the US Girls?? Junior Championship this past summer. She has four top-five AJGA finishes and was named an AJGA All-American (Honorable Mention).
??Mandy is a great competitor and finds a way to get the ball in the hole. She doesn??t give up on herself and is a fighter. Her game improved significantly this summer and she has a lot of outstanding golf ahead of her. She is a wonderful addition to our team.??
Simons rounds out Dailey??s signing class. Originally from Raleigh, she is now attending the David Ledbetter Academy in Florida. She is currently in her second year at the academy.
??Maggie can hit the ball with anyone. She is another competitive student and is on the verge of winning consistently. Her game just keeps getting better. I expect her to win one or two of the big junior tournaments this coming summer.??
Wake Forest will lose three seniors off of this year??s squad, including All-ACC and All-American Nuria Clau. The Deacons will also be graduating Maria Beautell and Caroline Stetler, both common faces in the starting lineup.
