Thom, Winstead Earn Academic All-District Honors

Wake Forest women's soccer team members, junior forward Alena Thom and junior midfielder Katherine Winstead, were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III University Division Women's Soccer Second-Team on Thursday.
Thom, a forward for the Demon Deacons, holds a 3.30 GPA with a major in anthropology. While at Wake Forest, Thom has made the Dean's List four times. This season, the Jefferson City, MO native is second on the team with eight goals and seven assists, and owns 18 starts. She is currently tied for 10th in the ACC with 0.37 assists per game and tied for ninth with 23 points.
Winstead, who is majoring in sociology at Wake, maintains a GPA of 3.68 and was named to the 2001-02 All-ACC Academic Honor Roll list. A three-time Dean's Lists member, Winstead leads the team this season with nine goals and has contributed five assists. The Raleigh, NC midfielder is currently 10th in the ACC in scoring, as well as tied for ninth in points per game.
To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-District III team, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career.
