Winston-Salem, N.C. - Five different Demon Deacons scored in double figures as Wake Forest hammered High Point, 82-32, on Monday night at Joel Coliseum. The 50-point margin of victory was Wake Forest's largest since the 1990-91 season.
The Deacons used a 23-0 run and held the Panthers scoreless for nearly ten minutes in the middle portions of the first half. The Deacons shot a blazing 54 percent while limiting the Panthers to a frigid 19 percent in the first half. In the process, Wake Forest raced out to a 45-15 halftime lead.
In the second half, it was more of the same as Wake Forest pounded it inside. The Deacons won the battle in the paint, outscoring the Panthers 42-10.
Senior Johanna Bjorklund led all scorers with a career-best 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She also hauled in seven rebounds. Junior Eafton Hill also finished in double figures with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman Cotelia Bond-Young had 12 points while Tonia Brown and Meredith Bell each chipped in ten points.
The Deacons exhibited tremendous defensive intensity throughout the game, forcing 26 turnovers while yielding 23 percent shooting on the night. High Point's 32 points were the fewest by a Wake Forest opponent since the Deacons shut down Morgan State for 29 points in 1990.
Wake Forest improves to 4-1 on the season and will continue their homestand on Thursday against IUPUI. That game against the Jaguars is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Reynolds Gymnasium.
