HIGH POINT, NC -- The 11th-ranked Wake Forest baseball team went on the road and defeated High Point University 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon, extending the team's winning streak to seven games.
The Deacons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but found themselves trailing 5-2 after three innings, thanks mostly to four unearned Panther runs in bottom the first inning.
Just as it did all weekend, however, Wake Forest railled to take the lead later in the game. Steve LeFaivre's two-run home run gave the Deacons a lead they would never lose.
Ben Clayton got the win allowing just one earned run in five innings. Daniel Davidson, Adam Hanson and Dave Bush combined to pitch four innings of scoreless relief.
Offensively, Ryan Johnson and Nick Blue each had three hits to lead Wake Forest.
The Deacons will return to Hooks Stadium to host Albany on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Kyle Sleeth gets the call for Wake Forest.
