Wake Forest Automatically Qualifies in Men's DMR

It was a productive weekend for the Wake Forest men's and women's indoor track & field teams as the Demon Deacons were in action at various meets across the country in a competitive tune-up before the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships next week.
AMES, IA - The Wake Forest men's Distance Medley Relay team automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships Friday night at the Iowa State Classic, running the third fastest time in the nation so far this season, a 9:35.65 - breaking both the school and conference records. Nathan Sisco (So., Lebanon, NJ) led off the relay, Ryan Hamilton (Sr., Greenville, SC) ran the second leg, Paul Singleton (Jr., Greenville, SC) took the third and Chris Estwanik (Sr., Dublin, OH) finished as the anchor. Also in action in Ames, IA, was Nikeya Green (So., Woodbridge, VA) who placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:08.98.
BLACKSBURG, VA - Most of the Demon Deacons competed in the Virginia Tech Challenge Saturday. Carol Merritt (So., Raleigh, NC) broke the school record in the 400m with a time of 55.27. Shauna Danos (So., Groton, MA) set a career best time of 2:12.72 in the 800m for fourth place. Kara Mullin (So., Lake Bluff, IL) and Tess Fath (Fr., Brookhaven, NJ) also placed in the top 10 of the 800m with career best times of 2:15.99 and 2:16.23 respectively. Sandra Jenkins (Sr., Wytheville, VA) captured sixth place in the Shot Put with a mark of 43-5.25 and Jen Leesman (Fr., Cincinnati, OH) placed seventh with a mark of 42-4.
On the men's side, Cliff Neal (Sr., Winston-Salem, NC) was the runner-up in the Weight Throw with a mark of 60-3. Mike Altieri (Sr., Sacramento, CA) was the runner-up in the Mile with a time of 4:11.75. Six Deacs posted top 10 finishes in the men's 3,000m as Sean Nagorny (Sr., York, PA) took third with a time of 8:26.92, Ted DeVos (Sr., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) came in fifth with a 8:27.67, Dave Barrett (So., Londonderry, NH) slipped in sixth with a career best 8:29.64, Brian Smith (Fr., Belmont, MI) placed seventh with a 8:30.17, Brandon Bartholomew (Fr., Greenville, SC) finished eighth with a 8:32.44 and Jimmy Butler (Jr., Albuquerque, NM) rolled in 10th with a 8:34.94. Fabian Davis (Jr., Greenville, SC) placed fifth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 46-6.75. Davis and Luke Orman (So., Goode, VA) tied for fifth place in the High Jump with a mark of 6-4.75. Kevin Jones (Fr., Sumter, SC) finished sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:55.12. Tom Tymann (Jr., N. Bellmore, NY) came in sixth in the Shot Put with a mark of 47-7.75. Orman finished seventh in the Long Jump with a mark of 23-1.25. Zach Hamilton (So., Kalama, WA) tied for 10th place in the Pole Vault, clearing 14-7.25.
