The 8th-ranked Wake Forest baseball team defeated NC State 13-7 on Sunday afternoon in Raleigh to win the weekend series, improving to 19-4, 4-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Already leading 9-6, the Deacons blew it open with four runs in the seventh inning on back-to-back two-run doubles by Jamie D'Antona and Steve LeFaivre.
D'Antona finished the game 3-for-6 and tied a career-high five RBI. Adam Bourassa was 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored.
Freshman Brian Bach won in his third consecutive appearance to move his season record to 3-0. He pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the third and stranded a pair of runners in the fourth.
The Deacons came out swinging, putting up three in the first and three in the second. In the first inning, D'Antona singled to score two and Stephen Ghutzman scored D'Antona from first on a double.
In the second inning, Wake Forest put the pressure on the Wolfpack defense with three bunts. Ryan Hubbard reached on an error, stole second and went to third on Bourassa's bunt single. Nick Blue's swinging bunt scored Hubbard and an error allowed Bourassa to score. Later, Blue scored on D'Antona's single down the right field line.
The Deacons return to Hooks Stadium for a five-game homestand that features Charlotte, Liberty and Florida State. It begins on Tuesday against the 49ers with first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
