WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The 10th-ranked Demon Deacon baseball team scored runs in every inning as they hammered Appalachian State 22-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.
Wake Forest (11-1) set new season-highs in virtually every offensive category. As a team, the Deacs tallied 21 hits, four home runs and six doubles. It was the most runs scored by a Wake Forest team since scoring 30 on Davidson in February of 2000.
Several Deacons enjoyed banner days at the plate including Jamie D'Antona who went 4-for-6 with a home run and five RBI. Ryan Braun hit his first home run as a Deacon and finished the day 3-for-4 with a career-high five RBI. Adam Bourassa also hit his first Wake Forest home run and went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Ryan Johnson was a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs scored and a home run.
As a team, the Deacons saw their season batting average rise by 17 points. In the first 11 games, Wake Forest had hit six home runs. Today, the team hit four. Eight different Deacons had multi-hit games against Mountaineer pitching.
Wake Forest scored runs on each of ASU's five pitchers but starter Kyle Shiplett was charged with the loss. He gave up eight runs in the first three innings and fell to 1-3 on the year.
Overshadowed by the offensive fireworks, freshman Daniel Davidson got the win on the mound to improve to 2-0 on the season. He struck out five batters in five innings while allowing two runs.
The Demon Deacons finished their homestand with a perfect 7-0 record with a win at High Point sandwiched in the middle of that stretch. Tim Morley will pitch for Wake Forest when it takes its ten-game winning streak to Elon on Wednesday. First pitch is at 2:30.
