Loewenthal Defeats No. 114 Coetzee In NCAA First Round

COLLEGE STATION, TX - Wake Forest's number one men's tennis player, David Loewenthal, beat #114 Divan Coetzee from New Mexico 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-2 in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship at Texas A&M University Wednesday afternoon. The 41st-ranked All-ACC sophomore singles player from Franklin Lakes, NJ advances to the second round, where he will face top-ranked and top-seeded Matias Boeker from Georgia on Thursday.
Loewenthal, now 31-13 this season in singles play, moves into sole possession of second place on the school's single-season victory list.
Wake Forest finished the season 17-6 overall and 6-2 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons were selected to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and lost in the first round to Final Four bound, fifth-ranked and second-seeded Tennessee, in Knoxville. Wake Forest head coach Jeff Zinn returns five of six starters next season.
