Auburn, Wash. ?V The Wake Forest women??s golf team saw its season come to an end with the final round of the NCAA Championships. The Deacons shot a four-day score of 1206 to finish in 22nd place in their seventh trip to the championships.

Duke took both team and individual honors. The Blue Devils shot a 12-over par to become the 2002 national champions. Virada Nirapathpongporn of Duke earned medalist honors, shooting nine-under par to secure the top spot.

Head coach Dianne Dailey expressed the teams?? disappointment of their score yet excitement to be back in the NCAAs.

??We??re disappointed in how we played. We just couldn??t get anything going,?? said Dailey. ??We couldn??t make the shots we needed to make to shoot the low scores. There was tough competition and the scores were low, but I think the students learned a lot. It??s good to be back in the NCAAs. I was real happy how we played all year long, especially in the regional and am looking forward to next year. ??
