Bea Bielik Named National Player of the Year

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- - Yet another award has been bestowed upon Wake Forest tennis player Bea Bielik, as she was named the 2002 National Player of the Year, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Bielik and Georgia??s Matias Boeker, the men??s award winner, will be honored at the Tennis Week/ITA All-Star Award Ceremonies on August 23 in New York.
Bielik, a junior from Valley Stream, N.Y., captured her second national singles title of the season last month by winning the NCAA title. On her way to the title, she set an NCAA Championship record for fewest games lost (21). In November she won the Omni Hotels National Indoor title (which is the second of three national events during the season). Bielik, who is a three-time ITA All-American, went 35-2 in 2001-02 and finished at No. 1 in the Omni Hotels national singles rankings.
The ITA National Player of the Year award goes annually to the individuals who have had the most outstanding years in both individual and team competition, as determined by the ITA.
In addition to the ITA National Player of the Year award, Bielik was also recently named the Honda Sports Award winner for tennis. Both honors are firsts for the WFU program.
