WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Deacon baseball players were named to the American Baseball Coaches Assocation All-America teams. Pitcher Dave Bush was a first team selection while pitcher Kyle Sleeth and designed hitter Ryan Johnson were named second team.
Bush, Sleeth and outfielder Adam Bourassa had already earned All-America status from other organizations and publications this summer. Johnson's selection brings Wake Forest's All-American total to four, the most in school history.
Bush finished his senior season with an 8-1 record, a 1.64 ERA and 13 saves. He is now in the Toronto Blue Jays' farm system. Sleeth was second nationally with 14 wins and no losses, the ACC's ERA leader at 2.97. He is spending his summer with the USA National Team. Johnson hit .366 with 13 home runs and 77 RBI. He is playing with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League.
In addition to its All-America teams, the ABCA released its All-Region teams. Bush, Sleeth and Johnson were First Team All-Region along with Wake Forest teammate Adam Bourassa. Bourassa became just the third Deacons to reach 100 hits in a single season and finished the year with a .412 batting average. He is with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League and is fourth in the league in hitting, through July 11.
