Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest baseball players Kyle Sleeth and Adam Bourassa were selected by Baseball America as Summer All-Americans, the publication announced on Friday. Sleeth picked up first team honors while Bourassa was named to the second team.
Sleeth competed on Team USA this summer as its toured nine states and three countries. He finished his summer with impressive credentials, a 7-1 record, 1.44 ERA in eight games. The junior-to-be from Westminster, Colo., struck out 56 batters in 56 innings whlie walking just 16. His signature performance of the summer was a two-hit, complete game shutout of Chinese Taipei on July 19 in Haarlem, Netherlands.
For the second straight summer, Bourassa patrolled center field for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League. Bourassa finished second in the league in batting average at .323, second in hits with 50 and fifth in stolen bases with 18. He batted .500 in the league playoffs. In the heavily-scouted Cape Cod All-Star game, Bourassa was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, reaching base in four of his five plate appearances. In the field, Bourassa shined, making several running catches and two strong throws to home plate.
Sleeth and Bourassa, both All-Americans in 2002 for Wake Forest, will headline a talented group of returnees. The 2003 Deacons bring back all nine starting position players and 12 pitchers. That group includes three returning All-Americans and four All-ACC selections.
