Louisville, Ky. - The seventh-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team defeated 20th-ranked Delaware this afternoon at the University of Louisville??s Trager Stadium by a score of 6-2. With the win, the Deacs improve to 3-2 on the year, while the Fightin?? Blue Hens fall to 4-2.

The Deacons started the scoring early when junior Emily Ruth scored off a feed from sophomore Kelly Dostal 6:25 into the game. Fifteen minutes later, sophomore Claire Laubach as awarded a penalty stroke and converted for her first career goal. At 23:38, freshman Ariel Meyers scored the first goal of her career on an unassisted tally. Delaware??s Erica LaBar scored with ten minutes to play in the first to make the score 3-1 at halftime.

The Deacons continued their dominance in the second half as Dostal took a feed from sophomore Claire Lawhon and found the back of the net. Meyers netted her second of the game at 48:14 when scored off a pass from senior Maria Whitehead to run the score to 5-1. LaBar scored again for the Blue Hens, but Dostal capped things off with her second goal of the game to give the Deacons the 6-2 victory.

Wake Forest outshot Delaware 16-2 and won the penalty corner battle, 11-3. Wake Forest goalkeepers Katie Ridd and Merrilee Robbins did not have to make a single save in the win, while Delaware??s Stephanie Judefind made four.

The Deacons will be back in action on Wednesday night when they welcome the Radford Highlanders to Kentner Stadium. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
