Golf Wins Second Straight Event, The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The Wake Forest men??s golf team won its second event in as many outings, capturing first place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. The 54-hole event took place at the par-72, 7,147-yard course at The Ridges Golf and Country Club.
The Demon Deacons, ranked sixth nationally, captured first place in last week??s International Collegiate in Scotland. In just two events so far this season, Wake has already tied its team championship total from last season.
Rainy weather was a factor in Sunday??s final round as the Deacons turned in the second-lowest score of the day, a seven-over par 295. WFU finished the event two strokes ahead of second-place North Carolina with a 12-over 876 for the tournament. The 14-team field included five teams currently ranked in the top 25 as well as two other ACC teams (UNC and Duke).
Deacon junior Bill Haas shot a 70 on Sunday to share a five-way tie for first-place, finishing with a one-under 215. It marks the third career collegiate victory for Haas. Senior Brent Wanner posted a second-straight top 10 finish, placing ninth with a two-over 218. Teammate Chad Wilfong, who was the Deacon leader after two rounds, also placed ninth, his third career top 10 finish. Wanner carded a 72 in the final round, while Wilfong turned in a 74.
The remainder of the Deacon lineup, like many in the field, struggled against the elements on Sunday??s 18 holes. Senior Chris Yoder finished 37th with a 10-over 226 after posting a final-round 79. Senior Cortland Lowe placed 62nd, counting a final-round 83 to finish with a 16-over 232. Wake freshman Alex Yates, competing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual, placed 73rd with a 240 (79-77-84).
The Wake Forest men??s golf team now as a two-week break in the schedule before returning to action Sept. 28-29 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga.
