TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Wake Forest men's golf team is in fourth place after one round of the Seminole Intercollegiate, taking place at Golden Eagle Country Club. The Demon Deacons, with a two-under 286, are just one stroke out of third place and four strokes behind field leaders College of Charleston and Tennessee (282).
Fifteen teams are participating in the two-day, 54-hole event on Golden Eagle's par 72, 6,847-yard layout. The field was scheduled to play two rounds today, but the second round was cut short due to darkness. Teams will finish the second round, then play the final 18 on Tuesday.
Deacon junior Bill Haas is currently in a tie for second after firing a 68 on Monday. Along with Tennessee's Ian Parnaby, Haas sits one stroke back of field leader Dustin Bray of North Carolina, who shot a 67. In all, seven players turned in scores in the 60s in the first round, and 25 players were even or under par on the opening 18.
Two other Deacons are included in that group - senior Brent Wanner is currently tied for 12th with a one-under 71, while another senior, Cortland Lowe, is tied for 14th at even par.
Other Wake Forest golfers competing include freshman Kyle Reifers, who is tied for 37th with a three-over 75, and senior Chad Wilfong, currently tied for 63rd with a +6 78.
With four straight top five finishes entering the Seminole Intercollegiate, the Wake Forest golfers will attempt to extend their streak as the tournament wraps up on Tuesday.
